Work out your share of the doctor’s bill

The tool applies the general mechanism of basic insurance: first your deductible, then the 10% co-payment (capped at 700 CHF a year for adults and 350 for children; the tool does not know what you have already paid in co-payment this year). The sum applies to treatments that the insurance covers 100%, leaving only that normal share to you. There are exceptions that do not work like this: certain medicines carry a 40% co-payment, the ambulance is covered through contributions with a cap of its own, a hospital stay adds a contribution of 15 CHF a day that falls outside that cap, and the family cap for several children is not built in either. Some benefits are exempt as well: the specific maternity ones (the pregnancy check-ups, the birth) never carry any cost sharing, and from week 13 of the pregnancy neither do the rest of the benefits.
